If you're planning a visit to the New Baba Mandir in Gangtok, consider staying at the Taj Guras Kutir Resort & Spa. The New Baba Mandir, built in 1982 near Tsomgo Lake, honors Baba Harbhajan Singh, an Indian army soldier believed to guard India's border posthumously. Locals and army personnel attribute healing properties to the water in his shrine. The Old Baba Mandir near Nathang Valley is less accessible, prompting the construction of the new one. Weather and landslides can affect visits, so plan accordingly. Visitors need a valid ID and four passport-size photos for the required permit.
Situated atop Solophok Hill and located 79 km from Gangtok, Siddheswar Dham or Solophok Chardham is one of the most famous pilgrimage destinations of Sikkim featuring a 108 feet high Lord Shiva statue. The temple is easily accessible by road. Since it is a religious place, it is suggested to dress modestly and respect the rules of the temple.
Built in 1705, the Pemayangtse Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim. The most unique feature of the monastery is a wooden structure - Zangdokpalri, located on the top floor. It is a heavenly sphere that depicts the vision of Lama Gyalwa Lhatsum Chempo in a solid form. Also, the monastery features wall paintings, sculptures, a statue of Guru Padmasambhava, etc. Avoid using mobile phones and do not touch artifacts and holy objects inside the monastery. Take permissions before taking any photographs and smoking is not allowed inside the monastery. Also, it is advisable to dress modestly. The monastery is approximately aprpoximately 9 kilometers from Pelling.
